Chapter 1
I am really happy that Huck now has a Home with the widow Douglas so he has a place to call home. However I feel bad that they are changing him he should find a happy medium for himself. I especially hate how strict Miss Watson is, she is making him resent the life that The widow Douglas gave him. At least he still has his friends.
Chapter 2
I feel that Huck is a lot more mature and caring than Tom when it comes to how to treat people. Also when it's the right time to things like play a prank on poor Jim he already has a hard life. I hope that he rubs off on Tom and will take the leadership role someday in the friendship since he is wiser. Maybe it could be Huck Finn's band of robbers.
Chapter 3
Tom sawyer certainly has a overly active imagination and a lot of creativity. In this chapter I see that Huck can tell that his friend is a liar but continues to believe in him with a false sense of hope it could be because Tom is the most stable thing in his life and not want to loose it. They certainly make a great pair I hope they always have each other.
Chapter 4
I am really happy that Huck has found that he likes learning it shows that he has the potential to make something of himself. Sadly now that his father is back it seems that there is some sort of fear and this good path may be crushed. His father is now in his room waiting for him I hope he will be okay.
Chapter 5
Just as the context clues in the last chapter depicted Huck's Pap is someone to be feared. The fact that he is threatening his own son for money and beating him for going to school shows that he is obviously a bad father. Also supported by the fact that he has been out of the picture all this time. I Hope that the Widow gets guardianship and that the judge can straighten him out, though i doubt it.
Chapter 6
My assumptions were right that he is a bad father but i had no idea how crazy he is. Does he really think he can get custody of Huck after Kidnapping him and almost killing him! I can kind of understand Huck being happy their though because no matter who your parents are you still love them. Although now that his like has be endangered it is time to cut the chord and get out of there,
Chapter 7
I'm glad Huck Finally escaped but he certainly went over kill on the whole thing. Fakinig his own death may solve this problem but it will most likely cause a ripple effect and hurt the people close to him. However this plan is very very well thought out so it shows how smart Huck is even without schooling. Also how self reliant I have no doubt that he can make it on his own although he may get lonely.
Chapter 8
Huck reaches his goal of Jackson island and relaxes, which sound so cool having an entire island all to yourself. But if i were him i would feel really sad seeing all my friends mourning my death. I'm sure he is seconding guessing due to his loneliness, but luckily he has a new friend Jim. I'm glad Huck has someone for company now.
Chapter 9
This new adventure Huck and Jim are embarking on just keeps getting better. Canoeing around the island and finding free stuff sounds great. And seeing a floating house seems sort of surreal to me. I'm happy that Huck has Jim as sort of a parental figure because he needs someone like that to look out for him and the fact that Jim covers the dead body shows that.
Chapter 10
Tom sawyer seems to be a great influence on Huck because of the prank that he pulled on Jim. It went to far and Jim got hurt. Although Huck felt really awful about it, but I think it needed to happen to make him see the error of his ways. He defiantly gets his cleverness from Tom, dressing up as a girl to disguise himself is right up his alley.
Chapter 11
Huck 's cleverness is once again seen by the fact he chose a new person to ask for gossip since she would never recognize him. I'm happy that she is able to call his bluff later because she offers him help and a life line which to a runaway is very very important. It was quite comical to see him as a girl though.
Chapter 12
In this chapter we see that Huck has some morals by the fact that he feels bad for having to steal and offers some meager compensation. But he still shows some of his childish ways by going on the steam boat against Jim's Wishes and now the seem to be trapper with some murderous thieves! I hope they will escape before they have to encounter the thieves.
Chapter 13
Thankfully He and Jim escape by taking the robbers boat. But Huck once again shows his caring side and offers them help by sending someone over as soon as he gets ashore. This shows that Huck now see's himself as equals with those kinds of people and now thinks that maybe one day he might be there. Hopefully not.
Chapter 14
Huck and Jim take it easy in this chapter and relax in the woods with some of their stolen good which is good because it will help them bond.I feel they really needed this leisurely time after all these major events to reflect on what has happened thus far. I like that Huck still has an interest in reading I feel that he is doing this to become a better man than his father was since he never learned. I'm sure he will one day.
Chapter 15
When Jim and Huck get separated we really see some growth in Huck. When he plays a trick on Jim and Jim shows how concerned he was for Huck's safety Huck sincerely apologizes. This shows that he now feels Jim is an equal rather than just a play thing or lesser being. We also see Jim take on the parental role once again by the fact that he worried for Huck. Their friendship is defiantly growing.
Chapter 16
It makes me sad to think that Huck is having second thoughts about helping Jim. I felt he was over what was considered morally wrong in his day and had some new generation thinking. I'm glad he did end up not doing anything to endanger their escape even though he is probably still thinking about it. I hope he gets back to Jim safely.
Chapter 17-18
I feel that Huck really loves having a stable home setting for a change because of how warm and comforting it is. However those ideas shatter once he figures out how violent these families are to each other it seems the cozy house life isn't his style. He seems to always get the wrong ideas about thing from bad scenarios like this one. He may never look at people who have cushy houses the some way again since he will assume the same things. I guess he just prefers the out doors any way. I also fell sad he had to witness Buck being killed that must have appalled him.
Chapters 19-20
I don't understand why Huck isn't calling them out as these two men out as dirty rotten liars, which they are. It's very frustrating for me to read about how these men are getting away with all this and the fact that they are making all these southern simpletons believe that they are European royalty. They need to go.
Chapter 21-24
Even though these two con men are bad they are very smart at what they do. To say that women and children are not permitted in the next show peaks everyone's interest because they will want to know what is so bad about it and curiosity always wins. It was funny that everyone went to the show to cover their own foolishness. the con men made a good amount of money. They could just stop now but no they have to now plan to deceive a poor grieving family. I feel that these next few chapters are going to be upsetting.
Chapters 25-28
I feel so bad for the Wilks sister's being taken advantage like that. Although they are so gullible especially Mary Jane why would she give her sketchy uncle all the money when a trusted friend said don't trust them. I'm glad Huck is on their side and is showing compassion for them. He even told the truth for once. Although I still don't see why he doesn't rat them out. The dauphin has proven to be the most ruthless because he not only wants the will money but also their house and everything they have! I hope that these real uncles straighten everything out and the girls get the money back.
Chapters 29-31
There new brother are the legitimate uncles but have to go head to head with the due and dauphin to prove it. That dauphin just won't give up. When they finally exhume the body they find the lost money and Huck is able to escape with Jim on the raft. I thought those con men were gone for good but no they also narrowly escaped leaving the money with the proper people as it should be. It gets worse because that no good dauphin finally does the worst thing that could happen and turns Jim in for a measly amount of money! Huck however finally comes to his senses that Jim and his friend ship means more to him than this social acceptableness and decides to do whatever he can to find and help Jim. Which makes all this turmoil worth while in my opinion.
Chapters 32-34
I'm happy that Tom has now made himself back into the chapters because he is so entertaining. However Huck has once again been put back into being a follower even though this is his story. Tom also has this crazy plan that might get them in more trouble than its worth when Huck's made the most sense. But I guess i should be happy that at least he is on his friends side and they are now both going against what is socially acceptable. I was especially happy when the duke and dauphin finally got what they deserved and were dragged out of town tar and feathered on a rail.
Chapters 35-38
I change my mind Tom Sawyer is the most aggravating character. His ideas are so completely absurd and time wasting that I don't understand why no one stops him. Poor Jim is probably never going to get out now and its all Toms fault because he insist of digging him out with spoons! what makes me most mad is that he is treating this like one of his silly games when it is actually a life changing situation. What made me most angry was the fact they actually broke Jim out to help them move some heavy stone that wasn't even remotely important to the already crazy plan! He was out they could have left then. i hope everything works out as it should and that Jim gets what he needs.
Chapters 39-41
Tom has once again ruined everything. They finally made their escape but thanks to him the had people with guns after them. and if that was not enough we started attracting attention to them so that they did get shot at! But he gets shot not them which may have been great for him for whatever reason but now he has endangered them more because now he needs a doctor. So Huck finds one and Jim risks his own freedom to help Tom even though he really doesn't deserve it. And now Huck is separated and has no idea what is going on. I hope he gets away.
Chapters 42-43
Poor Jim goes all the way back to the original town to help Tom and he is chained up. Tom is enraged by this and speaks his knowledge of Miss Watson's will stating Jim has been free this entire time! This makes me mad because his stupid plan was literally a game because he knew it would be okay in the end anyway. This shows Tom still doesn't see Jim as a person but as a play thing. I am happy however that Jim is now a free man and is able to live his life after this crazy adventure. I'm also glad Tom did give Jim some money For all the trouble he caused him. Huck sadly finds out that his father is dead which makes me a little happy because he no longer has to worry about constant beating. So all in all I would say this was a pretty good book.
